Dr. Abdulmalik Shehu Yaro

Ahmadu Bello University

Spring 2020

Dr. Abdulmalik Shehu Yaro is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, and currently a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Faculty of Informatics and Management, University of Hradec Králové (UHK), Czech Republic. A Spring 2020 MIT-ETT Fellow, he is a specialist in Wireless Localization, 5G Networks, and Computational Intelligence. His research is heavily focused on solving the “Indoor Localization” problem—helping devices find their precise location inside buildings where GPS does not work. He develops novel Fingerprinting Algorithms (using K-means and K-medoids clustering) to analyze Received Signal Strength (RSS) from Wi-Fi and Bluetooth beacons. His work aims to create low-cost, high-accuracy tracking systems for logistics, security, and emergency response in complex environments. Dr. Yaro holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM). His time at MIT was pivotal in shaping his teaching philosophy; he earned the Kaufman Teaching Certificate and has since been a vocal advocate for “Research-Led Teaching.” He integrates his active European research projects into his Nigerian classrooms, exposing ABU students to the latest techniques in Machine Learning and signal processing. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE and actively publishes in high-impact journals on the optimization of Millimeter-Wave Antennas for future 6G networks. His dual role in Nigeria and Europe allows him to serve as a vital bridge for international collaboration, facilitating student exchanges and joint research initiatives between ABU and European institutions.
