Dr. Akinwumi Abimbola Amusan

Dr. Akinwumi Abimbola Amusan is a lecturer in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the University of Lagos (UNILAG). Following his participation in the MIT-ETT program, he has actively embedded innovation-driven projects into his teaching. He supervises student design projects within his courses, enabling students to apply theoretical knowledge to practical engineering problems – for example, his classes have built an analog smart light switch, developed an FM radio receiver tuned to the campus station, and prototyped a smart water-shower system for livestock. In addition, Dr. Amusan employs active learning techniques and outcome-based assessments to ensure students engage deeply with the material. His research interests include micro/nano-scale electronics and thin-film materials, which inform his push for modernizing curriculum content. The MIT learning ecosystem, he notes, was “catalytical” in firing him up to succeed and change the world, and he instills that same ambitious mindset in his students.
