Dr. Angela Makolo

Dr. Angela Uche Makolo is a Reader (Associate Professor) in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Ibadan, where she leads the University of Ibadan Bioinformatics Group (UIBG). A Spring 2015 MIT-ETT Fellow, she is a pioneer in the application of Artificial Intelligence and Data Science to biological data in Nigeria. Her research focuses on Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, and Machine Learning, with specific projects in genome annotation and the development of algorithms for malaria research. She serves as the Principal Investigator for the UI Node of H3ABioNet, a Pan-African Bioinformatics network. Beyond research, Dr. Makolo is a passionate advocate for women in technology. She is a TechWomen Emerging Leader Fellow and the founder of Techmadel, a mentoring initiative designed to empower the next generation of girls in STEM. She holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Ibadan.
