Spring 2012

Dr. Anuoluwapo Olanrewaju Ajayi is an Associate Professor at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). A Spring 2012 MIT-ETT Fellow (originally from Obafemi Awolowo University), he has established himself as a leading researcher in Construction Informatics and Applied Artificial Intelligence. His career trajectory exemplifies the global mobility and impact of ETT fellows, bridging the gap between African academia and European research institutions. His research focuses on the application of Big Data Analytics, Machine Learning, and Internet of Things (IoT) to the built environment. Specifically, he develops “Smart Construction” solutions that use AI to optimize building energy consumption, predict structural health, and minimize waste in the construction lifecycle (Circular Economy). Dr. Ajayi holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Obafemi Awolowo University. During his time at OAU, he was instrumental in researching Quality of Service (QoS) models for Nigerian e-commerce and web services. His fellowship at MIT broadened his research horizon, pushing him toward interdisciplinary work that combines core computer science with industrial engineering challenges. He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) in the UK, a recognition of his commitment to excellence in teaching—a direct legacy of his MIT-ETT training. He continues to maintain strong research ties with Nigeria, collaborating on projects that apply AI to solve infrastructure challenges in developing economies.
