Fall 2022
Dr. Ayorinde Bamimore is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife. A Fall 2022 MIT-ETT Fellow, he is a researcher in Process Systems Engineering (PSE), with a specific focus on Advanced Process Control and Model Predictive Control (MPC). His research addresses the stability and optimization of complex industrial processes. He specializes in designing Nonlinear Model Predictive Controllers (NMPC) for systems with “dead time” or significant delays, such as chemical reactors and distillation columns. He has developed novel algorithms using Laguerre Functions and Neural Networks to reduce the computational burden of these controllers, making them faster and more effective for real-time industrial applications. Dr. Bamimore holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Obafemi Awolowo University, where he also completed his undergraduate and master’s studies. His time at MIT was pivotal in shaping his “Hands-On” teaching philosophy. Upon returning to OAU, he famously refurbished the department’s Four-Tank Process Control System, redesigning it to allow students to experiment with “Direct Digital Control” and instrument calibration—skills that are highly valued in the oil and gas automation sector. He is an active member of the Process Systems Engineering Laboratory at OAU and collaborates with international researchers on “Offset-Free” control strategies. His work aims to bridge the gap between theoretical control mathematics and practical plant operation, ensuring that Nigerian graduates are comfortable managing modern, automated facilities.
