Dr. Khadijat Tope Ladoja

Dr. Khadijat Tope Ladoja is a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Ibadan. A Fall 2022 MIT-ETT Fellow, she has been recognized as one of the Top 200 Young Researchers globally by the Heidelberg Laureate Foundation (HLF). Her research tackles the critical issue of bias in Artificial Intelligence. She specializes in Computer Vision and Natural Language Processing (NLP), with a specific focus on developing datasets and models for low-resource African languages (such as Nigerian Pidgin) and underrepresented demographics. She is the creator of NIFER (Nigerian Facial Expression Research), a novel dataset designed to address racial bias in facial recognition systems by introducing diverse African skin tones into global AI training data. Dr. Ladoja holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Ibadan and is an active member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD).
