Ahmadu Bello University
Fall 2014
Dr. Malachy Sumaila is a distinguished faculty member in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria. A Fall 2014 MIT-ETT Fellow, he is a specialist in Production Engineering, Composite Materials, and Manufacturing Optimization. His research focuses on the development of sustainable engineering materials, particularly the use of Natural Fiber Composites (such as reinforcements derived from agricultural waste) to replace synthetic materials in industrial applications. He has published extensively on the optimization of manufacturing parameters for wind turbine blades and offshore pressure vessels using advanced techniques like Taguchi methods and Grey Relational Analysis. Dr. Sumaila holds a Ph.D. in Production Engineering. He is deeply committed to solving local manufacturing challenges by developing home-grown machinery and processes that utilize locally available raw materials.
