Makerere University, Kampala
Fall 2014
Dr. Michael Lubwama is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the College of Engineering, Design, Art and Technology (CEDAT), Makerere University, Uganda. A Fall 2014 MIT-ETT Fellow, he is a leading expert in Materials Science and Renewable Energy. His research centers on the “valorization of waste,” specifically converting agricultural residues (like rice husks and coffee shells) into Bio-composite materials and clean energy briquettes. He investigates Tribology (friction and wear) and thin-film technology to improve the durability of these locally sourced materials for industrial use. Dr. Lubwama holds a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Dublin City University, Ireland. He actively collaborates with international partners to develop sustainable engineering solutions that address both waste management and energy poverty in Uganda.
