Prof. Patience Usoro Usip

Prof. Patience Usoro Usip is a Senior Lecturer and the Head of the Department of Computer Science at the University of Uyo, Nigeria. She is a member of the Fall 2016 MIT–ETT cohort. Dr. Usip is a highly regarded researcher in Artificial Intelligence, specializing in Knowledge Representation and Reasoning, Ontology Engineering, Knowledge Graphs, and the Multilingual Semantic Web. She holds a Ph.D. and an M.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Ibadan, as well as a B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Calabar. In addition to her post-doctoral fellowship at MIT, she is also a distinguished All Africa House Fellow at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. Prof. Usip’s research focuses on designing intelligent computational systems with practical applications across diverse domains, including healthcare, e-government, and information management. She has published extensively in international journals and books, serves as a guest editor and reviewer for top-tier academic publications, and acts as an external examiner for postgraduate programs internationally. A strong advocate for scientific development, she is also an active member of the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD)..
