Spring 2022
Dr. Tinuola Udoh is a chemical engineering lecturer who significantly revamped his teaching methods after the MIT-ETT fellowship. He introduced a system of regular problem sets in his courses, giving students weekly practice in applying concepts from class and honing their problem-solving skills. He also incorporated computational tools like MATLAB/Octave into teaching transport phenomena, allowing students to better visualize and understand complex equations through simulation. Additionally, Dr. Udoh established course projects where students design simple devices or demonstrations based on lecture topics – an approach aimed at fostering innovation and hands-on application of theory. Furthermore, he initiated academia-industry collaborations by organizing student field visits to industrial facilities and inviting industry professionals to guest-lecture, thereby bridging classroom learning with real-world engineering practice. Through these changes, Dr. Udoh’s classes have become much more interactive and practical, and his students graduate with stronger applied skills and exposure to industry standards.
