Prof. Francis Enejo Idachaba

Military Technological College, Oman

Spring 2013

Prof. Francis Enejo Idachaba is a Professor of Communication Engineering and currently serves as a Faculty member at the Military Technological College in Oman. A Spring 2013 MIT-ETT Fellow (originally from Covenant University), he is a dual-domain expert holding two Ph.D. degrees—one in Electronics/Telecommunications Engineering and a second in Petroleum Engineering. This unique combination allows him to bridge the gap between digital technology and the energy sector. His research is centered on Digital Oilfields, IoT Solutions for Industrial Monitoring, and Pipeline Security. He is a prolific inventor with multiple patents for pipeline leak detection systems, utilizing both ground-based sensors and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to secure critical oil and gas infrastructure. His work on “Intelligent Traffic Monitoring” has also contributed to reducing operational expenses for telecommunications base stations in developing countries. During his time at Covenant University, Prof. Idachaba served as the Head of the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering and later as the Director of the University’s Open and Distance Learning Unit. His fellowship at MIT was instrumental in shaping his teaching philosophy; he became a champion for “Industry-Academia linkage,” ensuring that student projects were directly applicable to solving problems for companies like Shell and Total. He is a registered engineer with COREN and an active member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). Prof. Idachaba continues to mentor African students and researchers, advocating for the use of Artificial Intelligence and 5G Technology to solve indigenous challenges in agriculture, security, and healthcare.
