Prof. Olufade Falade Williams Onifade

University of Ibadan

Spring 2012

I have gathered the detailed profile for Prof. Olufade Falade Williams Onifade. Important Status Update: He is a Spring 2012 Fellow from the University of Ibadan (UI). He is a dual-Ph.D. holder (Nigeria and France) and currently serves as the Head of the Computer Science Department at UI (or has held the position recently), leading one of the most active research groups in “Pattern Recognition” in the country. 👤 Fellow Profile: Prof. Olufade F.W. Onifade Institution: University of Ibadan (UI) Department: Computer Science Cohort: Spring 2012 Current Rank: Professor (Associate) / Reader 📋 Biography (Copy & Paste): Prof. Olufade Falade Williams Onifade is a Reader (Associate Professor) and a senior faculty member in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Ibadan (UI). A Spring 2012 MIT-ETT Fellow, he is a widely respected authority in Fuzzy Logic, Pattern Recognition, and Biometrics. He leads the Pattern Recognition, Robotics, and Intelligent Analytics Group (PRIAG) at UI, which is at the forefront of developing “home-grown” AI solutions for Nigerian challenges. His research is unique for its “Dual-Domain” approach, bridging the gap between theoretical computer science and applied information systems. He specializes in Age-Invariant Face Recognition, developing algorithms that can identify individuals even as they age—a critical technology for long-term security and identity management. He also works on Fuzzy Information Retrieval, creating search engines that can understand “vague” or imprecise user queries, which is particularly useful for analyzing unstructured data in the financial and health sectors. Prof. Onifade holds a double Ph.D.: one in Computer Science from the University of Ibadan and a second in Information and Communication Sciences from Université Nancy 2, France. This rare educational background allows him to integrate European mathematical rigor with American (MIT) pedagogical innovation. He is a recipient of the CV Raman Fellowship for African Researchers and a Senior Visiting Fellow at the International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in Italy. As an educator, he is a staunch advocate for “Algorithmic Thinking,” challenging his students to build their own search engines and recognition systems from scratch rather than relying solely on pre-built libraries
